Happy Birthday Paw Paw Bud

In celebration of Paw Paw Bud's birthday I decided that the boys should resemble farmers. These outfits remind me of the ones in the "been farming long" photo from a few years back. I thought they were really cute. Miles could not keep his hands off Colston's hat. I can just hear him saying "let me help you with that Colston".
Happy Birthday Paw Paw !!! We wish we could have been there with you!

6 Months Old!!

We had our 6 month Dr. appointment on our 6 month birthday. Here is the report with the offical scales at the office which are different than our home scale:

Miles:
Weight: 17 Pounds 8 ounces (50%)
Height: 26 inches (25-50%)
Head: 17 3/4 inches (75-90)

Colston:
Weight: 17 pounds 10 ounces (25-50%)
Height: 27 1/2 inches (75-90%)
Head: 17 3/4 inches (75-90%)

So, as expected Miles is just on Colston's heels. Only 2 ounces between them. Both are sitting up 100% by themselves and don't weeble wooble near as much as they did 2 weeks ago. Usually we only have a fall when they are really tired. We also had a fall today when Colston reached over and pulled Miles over. We still surround them with pillows to make sure any falls are nice and soft. Our nanny decided that the boys had not taken over quite enough of our house when one day we came home to our coffee table moved and instead a huge circle of pillows with toys and boys in the middle. Great idea but really it reminded me of some kind of livestock ring that they couldn't escape from.

Food is going very well. We have made it through all of our fruits and veggies now with only a few faces. We have also been successful with eliminating the night bottles which has made a great difference in Mommy and Daddy's sleep. We are actually getting 8 hours now and we are hoping to move that up in the near future.

Miles:
Miles has been quite comical this week. He has started sleeping on his stomach exclusively and likes to get as close as he can to the end of his bed or pack and play. In addition he enjoys pulling blankets over his head. When I went to get him out of bed this morning he was so covered by his blanket I couldn't tell where his head was. No telling how he sleeps like that. We have started only having very small lightweight blankets in his beds for safety. Miles also has started to get into anything within reach. Today when I was getting lunch ready I came back to find that Miles had figured out how to steal Daddy's newspaper and really looked like he was reading it. We are trying to break him from his pacifier now but not having the best luck just yet.

Colston:
As our nanny puts it Colston has been a "fuss-bucket". First it was the eating and no interest in it, then it was the teething, then the poor thing got shots. He is going through the growing pains and just wants to be close to one of us. Unlike his brother Colston did great at the 6 month photo session. He was much more smiling this time verses Miles (who usually smiles all the time) looked mad in most of the pictures. It was hard to find a duo shot this round that we liked at all. It's so hard to get both of them to smile for people they don't know. When Colston isn't a fuss-bucket he is very easy going. Proof is the photo I took of Miles literally kicking Colston in the head and Colston just smiling. He moves when he has enough of him but overall really gets a kick out of his brother.

Enjoy the photos from the last week as well as some spillover from when Grandma and uncle Kevin were here.

First trip to the beach

We were so excited to spend some time with Grandma Joy and uncle Kevin this past week. The boys went to the beach for the very first time. They spent some time in their beach tent first and then we went for a walk before lunch. After lunch we took some pictures on the beach of the boys. It was a beautiful day. Nice breeze to help with the hot hot Florida weather. Thanks to uncle Kevin for pushing the stroller through all of the sand and also for playing photographer. You only got hit with one wave in the face during the photo session so I would say it was successful. :)
Mom got to help out with the feeding of the boys which at times is a very trying experience. Colston still cries a lot and doesn't ever want to eat. Miles will still eat anything! I got a set of scales for the house so I can know better how the boys are gaining weight at the 5 1/2 mark Colston weighed 17 pounds 8 ounces and Miles was at 17 pounds 4 ounces. Can you believe our little guy is only 4 ounces away from his brother? We go to the Dr this Friday for their 6 month checkup so I'll have more data then.
The newest developments over the past two weeks is that both of the boys have started sitting up all by themselves. At times when they are tired they appear to be weeble wobbles but overall they do very well. Colston has also started cutting teeth. We can see and feel two on the bottom. Miles is right behind him but none have broken through yet.
I have received a few emails that state it's very hard to tell the boys apart. So to help you get to know them in the picture on the beach of the two of them Miles is always on the left and Colston is on the right. In the stroller shots it's Colston on the left and Miles on the right.

5 month Update

Yes! Can you believe it the boys are almost 5 1/2 months old. I have been diligently trying to upload the cutest video ever but unfortunatly after 5 tries over the course of 2 weeks I have decided to stop trying.

Colston:
This kid eats just like his mother. Picky and could care less about food. He started out good but now hits nights where he doesn't want to eat anything. He'll just sit there and cry. We try to be very patient with him. He likes to find anything possible to do besides eat. We were feeding him in his bumbo so he would first have to play with his feet. Then he would have to see where Miles was. Then he will see what he can reach on the table to play with. once those items are done he will stretch. His last resort is to just cry. The last couple of nights he has been better so we may be over this phase already. To help eliminate much of this we assembled the high chairs. Now he can't reach his feet or anything on the table. Colston likes sweet potatoes, green beans, and carrots best. He hates bananas. Will spit them out as soon as they hit his tongue.

Outside of eating Colston still loves to sleep. He will wake up in the morning and be content just to lay in his bed for awhile. He also can sleep anywhere as long as he has something to function as a blanket and his thumb to suck. I say "something" because Colston has invented various things that he can use as a blanket. Sometimes it's a burp rag or a soft toy which makes sense. Recently he has gotten creative. One day when I was walking out of a store I put a bag with a cup at the foot of his carseat. By the time I walked to the car he had grabbed the plastic bag and was using it as a blanket. He also has been using the curtain that goes around his swing as a blanket. This does not work well as when the mobile is on the curtain pulls down on top of the mobile and it makes a noise like a machine gun. Colston isn't phased by this loud sound at all. Sometimes he thinks it's funny. He also can fall asleep anywhere! He fell asleep in the middle of playing in his exerciser on night. I went to give Miles a bath and when I returned he was dead asleep. He had a nice red mark on his face when I got him up. If he gets tired of sucking his thumb his second favorite is the suck the sunrays of a toy on his exerciser. I am not sure why he does this but it isn't because he is hungry....it can't taste good!

Miles:
Miles could be called "Mikey" because he will eat anything that you put in front of him. He actually would whine/cry when we didn't feed him fast enough as he was used to the instant gratification of the bottle. He has gotten better with this. He has an amazing internal clock. He knows down to the minute when he should be fed and he'll let you know if your late. (Colston is usually 30+ minutes behind Miles -- can you guess who he gets that from?). Miles is still having struggles with scratching his head. He does this to soothe himself when he falls asleep. Unfortunatly no matter how many times I cut his nails he still manages to cut up his head and face. The "mittens" that they make for newborns are only for 0-3 months. Aparently kids aren't suppose to have this issue past that age as Miles' chubby little paws could not longer fit in the newborn mittens. I looked into ordering him some winter gloves but we decided instead to put his socks on his hands. He wasn't too fond of them at first but now is used to them. Now it's like rubbing a blanket on this head instead of his nails. Miles loves rubbing/scratching heads so much that we have found if Colston is close enough he will do it to him. Colston doesn't really like this show of love. We also notice that Miles will do this same action on the arm of the recliners and our arms when we hold him when he is tired. Miles doesn't suck his thumb as much as he sucks two fingers. Miles has started to sit all by himself this past week. It's very cute to see him do this and even funnier when he leans over and and rolls like a weeble wobble.

All in all both of the boys are doing very well. We have had the last TWO nights with BOTH of them sleeping through the night. It has been a long road as it seemed when one would sleep through the night the other one wouldn't. As if they were tag teaming us. Hopefully this will continue this week! We are looking forward to having my mom and my brother in to visit this week. If the weather permits we are going to take the boys to the beach for the first time.
