ONE!

A year has passed
A year is done
Can you believe that we are ONE?

Yes, Yes....I know another lag in the posting but I do have good excuses.

Colston and Miles celebrated their first birthday with a small party at home. Paw Paw Bud was here for the event as well as a few family and friends. Miles did very well at the party. Colston was frightened by all of the people in the house. He had to be held by mom or dad the entire day. Their cake smash consisted of a "probe" from Miles and one mom-inflicted swip of the icing for Colston. They enjoyed a noisy firetruck from Michele, a couple of trucks from mom and dad, a lego building table from Nanny Donna and also received some packages in the mail from the Rhodes' and Grandma Joy. (We'll be sporting our pjs in future shots.) Paw Paw Bud was equipped with his ever famous "envelope". Thankfully some of you listened to our our requests that no gifts be given. The last thing these kids need is more stuff!

We really enjoyed having Paw Paw around for all of the garage saleing. We picked up some great deals on sizes to get us all the way through summer! He self described himself as my "pack mule" do to the volumes of items he was holding. He was also a help once again with feeding the boys and being a second set of arms when we went out.

A few days after the boys birthday they went for their one year checkup at the Dr. We are still on the healthy track with as the Dr puts it -- big brains. This is a nice way of telling us our kids have huge heads!

Colston:
Weight: 22.4 = 50th percentile
Height: 30 1.4 = 75th percentile
Head: 18 3/4 inches = 90th percentile

Miles:
Weight: 22.12 = 50th percentile
Height: 29 1/4 = 50th percentile
Head: 18 3/4 inches = 90th percentile

They are wearing 12 month clothing now but I think we'll be moving to the 18 month size in just a few weeks. Miles has started walking. At first it was just a few steps and now he walks everywhere! Colston is still cautious. He takes about 5 steps if I am in front of him but other than that he plays it safe and crawls. We made a play area outside for them. A set of our french doors now walk out to a fenced playarea. This way they can go in and out without us safely. They have really been enjoying the great weather we have had.

So one week AFTER their first birthday we sadly said goodbye to Nanny Donna. Donna had been with us since the boys were only 3 months so this was a big change. With my new job I will now be working mainly out of the house so the loud boys needed a new venue. We picked a daycare that will teach them all sort of things. Spanish, italian, Japanese, sign language, etc. It will also give them the ability to interact with other kids their age which is a new concept for them. For the first three days of day care "superDAD" was on his own. I was in Atlanta for business so he did the drop off and pickups solo. I was able to see the boys on camera while I was in Atlanta which made it feel like I was right there. I'll say the cameras have their good points and their downfalls. It's nice to be able to check in and see them when we would like. It's difficult to see them pulling on a random Dad's pants leg to be held when he was picking up his own child. GEESH! How embarrassing Colston! Did we not teach you any manners? Miles has been getting a little braver each day. His report card from school says "happy" and "active" while Colston's says "cranky" and "sad". Most of the time I see Colston being carried around which provides for a great transition to home where he also expects to be held. Miles "Pimp" Crawford reportedly has a girlfriend already. I wonder if it's the same girl that came the morning I dropped off the boys. I overheard the mother saying "I need her extra clothes because she got sick in the car." I question this as when I picked up the boys at the end of the day Thursday Miles was asleep in a chair and had just thrown up shortly before. Great! I guess those open mouth kisses you do for mom were shared with the sick girl also.

Miles was sick! I mean SICK! The poor thing threw up not only on the car ride home but 14 more times over the course of 48 hours. I read the books and we were doing everything right. Pedialyte an hour afterwards. 1 tsp every 5 minutes. It was so hard to feed Colston without Miles seeing. They spent a lot of time in their jumpers to minimize the amount of germs they were sharing. At one point Miles was so hungry he tries to pickup Colston's graham cracker off the floor before I noticed he had thrown it down. Sneaky! And the diapers! YUCK! Have you ever seen a kid look behind himself to see who made that noise that just came from himself? Funny! And don't get me wrong there is talent to a child that can projectile vomit over 6 feet while walking. Thank goodness we have tile floors.

Colston on the other hand had a cold. I swear we removed 1/2 of his brain with that nose bulb this weekend. I've never seen so much in my life. He hates the nose sucker! We have to literally pin him down to do it. What's funny is that Colston was too tired to steal all day Friday and the beginning of Saturday. You could see it in his eyes but he didn't do it. By end of day saturday he tried to swipe Miles pedyalite which was so sad because that's all the kid could have.

So we have a snot box on one hip and a vomit machine on the other. Of course daycare wasn't an option for Friday. Who would possibly consider taking their sick kids to daycare? Oh - never mind -- that's how we got in this mess. At home no one wanted to be more than 2 feet from Mom. Did you know that Moms are only made with one lap? I think this should be re-considered for those of us with multiples or grandparents with lots of grandkids. I was so glad when Dad got home so that I didn't have to sit on the floor holding babies anymore. By Sunday at lunch time the boys were both feeling better. Little by little we have survived the weekend.

With visitors, work travel, and sick children I didn't have any spare time to blog. I know some of you have been waiting for the one year pictures and I apologize for that. I hope to do better now that some of this is behind us but no promises!
