Colston and Miles are 1 Month Old

Miles and Colston turned four weeks old last Saturday. Their first month life brought some new visitors. George and Trudy arrived from Slidell and stayed a few days. They babysat for a couple of hours while Chris and I went out to run errands without the kids. We also had a nice visit from Rick and Pam Peercy. They were in town playing golf for the week and stopped by on their way home. Charlotte followed and was a huge help doing everything from laundry to taking both boys in the early morning so that Chris and I could get some much needed rest. Charlotte and I also ventured out of the house with the boys for the first time. It was great to have her there to build up my confidence that I could go in public with two babies! While Charlotte was here Jeremy stopped in for an evening to meet the boys. Then my mom was here getting her baby holding time in. Wanda, Kelly and her two adorable kiddos also came over for a visit. Needless to say our house has had a revolving door during the past few weeks and we have really enjoyed all of the visitors.

Colston has been having a rough time since week two. For a few days he screamed and we couldn't figure out what was wrong. After the process of elimiation we determined that it could be the new organic formula we were supplementing with. We changed back to the original formula and he seemed a little better for a day or two but it came back. We have determined that we have a case of colic on our hands. It's been a little testing to our patience as Colston loves to scream at the top of his lungs and there is nothing we could do to calm him. Over the past few weeks we have learned a few tricks and he seems to be doing much better. Both Colston and Miles have determined that he they prefer to sleep on their side. We always put them down on their backs but they have both figured out how to roll to their sides. This began at 2 weeks so I was really surprised. We have caught Miles rolling all the way to his stomach a few times.

At their checkup two weeks ago Colston weighed 8 pounds and Miles was up to 6 pounds 3 oz. Colston seems to be getting heavier by the day and never will shy away from a bottle. Breastfeeding is going okay but has been a source of much frustration for me over the last couple of weeks. It doesn't seem my body has realized that I have two kids to feed. Many times after 35-40 minutes of nursing we still have to give them a bottle as they are still hungry. I also have learned that nursing leaves VERY little time for me to do anything except feed these babies. If I feed them seperatly each one takes about 40 minutes and they are eating every 2 hours. I only have about 30 minutes to myself before I need to start nursing someone again. With a bottle being consumed in less than 10 minutes I struggle with keeping the nursing up much longer. They are constantly eating. Sometimes they even try to eat each other. Sometimes it looks like they may be kissing but I know Colston really is just trying to nurse Miles' forehead. Chris has been great with the boys. He frequently talks to them and has created a little schedule for them when I take my "naps" to catch up on sleep that I miss through the night.

Overall we are doing very good. The only thing we miss is sleep. I can't remember what it feels like to sleep an entire 8 hours without interruption. I think my body is now trained that I don't need more than about 4 hours of sleep per night between getting up at least every 30 minutes for nursing, putting a pacifier back in, checking to see what that weird noise was etc. One thing about our boys is they are not quiet sleepers. They make little cooing noises, squeaks, hiccups, and an endless amount of passing gas. I have never heard some many bodily functions in my life. All we can do is laugh. We look forward to this weeks visitors which includes Grandma Doris, James, Aunt Dinah, and Lacey.

Deanna and Chris the boys are absolutely precious. I love hearing the updates. Glad you guys are getting "some" rest- I know it must be challenging. Miss you and hopefully before they are fully grown we can come visit...Take care- Chris and Mary V.
